Museums for All at Old Salem Museums and Gardens
Old Salem Museums and Gardens participates in Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM).
This initiative encourages individuals from all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits. Old Salem Museums and Gardens supports those receiving food assistance (SNAP) benefits by offering a minimal admission fee of $3.00 per person, for up to four people, with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
Program Details:
- Affordable Admission: A maximum charge of $3.00 per ticket applies for participants presenting a valid EBT card. Up to four individuals can benefit from this rate with the presentation of one EBT card.
- Application Process: Participants need to complete a brief application to be entered into our Altru system as individual constituents. Our Visitor Center (VC) staff will assist in this process.
- Identification and Membership Card: Participants must present a photo ID and their EBT card for verification. A laminated membership card will be issued for ease of access in future visits.
- Group and Chaperone Rates: If an EBT cardholder is part of a school group, the $3 rate will apply to the chaperone with the EBT card, not to students or other children in the group. This rate only applies when paying for admission day-of, and cannot be booked in advance.
- Expiry and Renewal: Membership cards have an expiration date aligned with the participant’s SNAP benefits eligibility. Renewal simply requires showing the EBT card and photo ID again, without needing to reapply.
Additional Information:
- Eligibility for Out-of-Town Visitors: Out-of-town visitors can also avail themselves of the Museums for All rate by presenting their state’s EBT card. We maintain a reference of EBT cards from each state for verification purposes.
- Regular Access: The Museums for All rates are available during all normal operating hours for general admission, excluding special programs or events.
